The Max Havelaar foundation is a non-profit organization which assigns the well-known Fairtrade seal in Switzerland. It distinguishes products whose production complies with certain social, ecological and economic criteria. Fairtrade is the leading certification system worldwide. It’s producers benefit from a fixed minimum price as well as a bonus.
There are several organizations behind this certification system. The umbrella organization, Fairtrade International, is made up of 37 members: 26 National Fairtrade Organisations (NFO), three producer networks and eight Fairtrade marketing organizations, which establish Fairtrade on new markets.
